Photoshoot # 1 {behind the scenes with Alexis Ramos & Lynet Ramos}

Last week I had the privilege of working with thee amazing photographer and friend, Alexis Ramos along side make up artist Lynet Ramos. Alexis contacted me a couple weeks back about this shoot and I immediately could not contain my excitement! We worked together a couple years ago and I fell in love with her style of photography. So last Wednesday, I woke up at 6:30 am to get into hair and makeup (which I was way too excited for I could not sleep!) Our location was chosen by the photographer on an old and abandoned dirt road in the beautiful Countryside of Florida. The look was also inspired by Alexis as she invisioned a wide leg trouser, thick eyeliner, and natural wavy hair.
I had so much fun doing this shoot and I couldn't wait to blog about it! I could hardly walk on the dirt road with the shoes I had on (being a woman is so hard, lol) I almost ended up with a twisted ankle! We couldn't stop laughing, I had to keep reminding myself to stay professional. Oh, and lets not forget how happy I was because of how tall I looked :-) All in all, I had a terrific experience being able to not only work with some dear friends, but also having the opportunity to bond with them. On my blog, I want to make sure to shine the light on those who impact my life in some way. Whether I know them or not, whether they know it or not. I want my readers to share with me my experiences and just how beautiful and talented people really are, so I interviewed both of these ladies, check it out and if you ever need a photographer or a make up artist, hire these lovely women!

Questions by EKS-
EKS- Where does your inspiration come from?

Alexis Ramos- I usually find my inspiration from all places. It can be the tiniest of things in a photo or something around me and it will spark an idea or image that I want to create. It ranges from anything! To another photo or something in the media, or even a simple color palette.

EKS- Why did you want to become a photographer?

AR- I first got into photography through school. I had always loved taking pictures but it was my experience with a DSLR and it was as if a new world opened up! I started experimenting with lenses, different lighting, different styles of photography and more! I was inspired by what I could create and how I could make people feel about a photo.

EKS- What do you love most about your job?

AR- What I love most is creating beautiful imagery. I love creating a story through my photos and being able share the passion and love I feel about a particular photo or session. It's a great feeling to love your own work and be inspired to keep going and pushing the envelope.

EKS- Tell me your best/favorite experience.

AR- One of my favorite experiences was actually my sisters engagement session. She looked amazing ( makeup done by the talented Lynet Ramos). We went to a beautiful "woodsy" site that I had never been to before and it was my first shoot with a vintage theme. I had so much fun that I didn't even feel like I was working. I want all my sessions to feel the same way, tons of fun, beautiful people and locations and a gorgeous outcome!
---------------------------------------
EKS- When did you realize that you wanted to do make up for a living?

Lynet Ramos- Well, I always used to color a lot and I loved blending colors together and shading. So when my mother introduced me to make up, I would secretly try to act like I knew what I was doing. Surprisingly, the outcome actually wasn't bad! Lol. As I played around with her makeup I realized that I loved doing this. I eventually started asking my friends if I could do their makeup and I then knew that I was completely passionate about it. I needed to pursue it!

EKS- Where do you see yourself in your career?

LR- I see myself working freelance as long as I can and also working for the community, maybe local fashion shows. If I can just continue working in this field, I don't care where it takes me. I. Ready, it's my passion.

EKS- Name one of your best experiences as an artist.

LR- One of my best experiences would have to be when I was working on one of my clients that was really down and insecure because she had mature skin. She didn't see the beauty that I saw. She had beautiful eyes and a great smile but it was all masked by sadness. After I was finished, she took one look in the mirror and was hesitant at first but after getting ready and doing her hair, she burst into tears (which was not ok with me, lol) because she never thought her face could look like it did. Her husband surely couldn't keep his hands off of her ;-)

EKS- And lastly, what type of music inspires you?

LR- Um, I wouldn't say that there is a specific type of music, but there many! Music brings me to a place of thought that transforms me. If I pop on some Beyonce, I'm ready to make you a diva, lol. Then maybe kick it back to Ella Fitzgerald and I'm inspired to work on my vintage classic beauty. The list can go on and on! I think all genres of music can inspire me in many ways to do all kinds of work.

What happens when you're here not there?

When the idea of starting my own blog came about, I never thought I'd have the urge to share my deepest struggles and insecurities. But here I am ready to allow my readers to get to know me a little better ( and throughout time, I will share more.) But for the moment, I want to talk about being here and now, in my mid-twenties and suddenly feeling overwhelmed by loneliness and the inability to shake it off. I've realized that loneliness does not always come from actually being alone (although being alone is extremely lonely sometimes,) however, it can be there if you're with people too. I am surrounded by people who love and care about me, so why can't I shake this uncomfortable feeling?
I spend almost the entire day just thinking, thinking, and thinking. About who I am, who I was, and who I want to be. I recently read a blogpost by an amazing blogger named Colormenana and she wrote about being 25 yrs old and going through some not so great moments of feeling lost. I loved her post because it reassured me that "this too shall pass," and that I am not alone in this. I was raised knowing about faith and practicing it in times of trouble and tribulation, but its safe to say that God does not always show up when you ask, He shows up when it's time, And sometimes that's not so easy to accept. I once heard that life is not about waiting for relief, or a get out of jail free card, or waiting for a prince to come rescue you on a horse, but that its about making it happen on your own, working hard for what you want. But if you're like me, I grow impatient and I want results like NOW!
So, why would I, a new blogger, post about something so personal? Already? I don't know. Maybe it's because I know I am not alone and I want to encourage my readers to stay strong because being 25 years old is not all parties, booze, and making bad decisions. Being a young adult is hard, really hard. So make sure to live in the moment and surround yourself with great people, beautiful people, that will teach you to relax and enjoy the chaos. So friends, here are a few pictures that have been encouraging me lately, hope they do the same for you :-)

Tiles and walls

So keebz and I always drive down orange ave to get to our routine thrift shop and we pass by this empty lot in which where a building used to stand. And we always come up with random stories and theories on how it came down and why. Truth is, the site is beautiful, artistic, and quite lonely. Every time we drive by it, we always plan to stop and have a mini photo shoot on this lovely, raw place. So this past weekend, we finally stopped and had ourselves some fun:)
And I hope that this site is soon occupied by an amazing business. Hopefully a local shop, or a rad thrift shop:-) Enjoy your week everyone, thanks for reading:-)

Blonde Redhead and farmer's markets

Happy Tuesday friends! So like I promised I wanted to talk about my current band obsession, Blonde Redhead. They've been making music since 1993 and have not stopped grabbing the attention of many all around the world. Their fans are countless and that's because their music is really magical. This band inspires my everyday life especially songs like "The dress," "Not getting there,"and "Love or prison." The lead singers name is Kazuhiro Makino and she is unbelievable! I definitely recommend for you to dive into their music with eyes closed and allow them to take you to another level in not only music, but also artistically.
So I spent the whole day yesterday honoring #musicmonday and listened to Blonde Redhead while I cleaned, cooked, and drank some wine with my lover. Aside from that, we also went to our neighborhood farmers market at stardust video & coffee which happens every Monday and is basically a routine for us. The atmosphere is rad, the music is live and lovely and the vendors are amazing. You'll have everything from fresh produce, to thrift clothes, to natural soaps and washes (which is one of my personal favorite booths!) This week I encourage my readers to look up Blonde redhead along any other music you love, I would absolutely love to hear your feedback! :-)

Colors & risks

Ok so I must admit something, I never stray away from my neutral colors and earth tones when it comes to my makeup. So yesterday , I was in the mood to try something new and so my mother, sister and myself took a trip to MAC to play with some make up and see what colors are new for the season. Of course, I had no intention on buying anything seeing as how I'm on a "strict" budget (wink wink) :-).Nonetheless I met the cutest make up artist named Melony Santos and she dared me to take a risk and try a few new colors on my eyes.. To make a long story short I loved everything she tried on me and I bought the cutest two eyeshadow colors. I used MAC pro long wear concealer NW25, on my eyes I used Ablaze Matte and Texture Velvet (See the pics below.) Two new shadows I've never tried before and I am excited to step out of the box a little more with these fun colors.

Yesterday I chose to go with a fresh fit. Since I was having a girls day with my mom and sister, I wanted to feel fresh but still chic. So I chose to wear my forever 21 tank along with my boyfriend joe's jeans and my leopard theory flats. The weather was perfect and this look made me feel feminine yet with a touch of masculinity. I can always find a reason to put on my boyfriend jeans!!!!
Thanks for reading and feel free to ask me anything about this simple but fun look:-)

Introduction to Eyeknow style blog:)

I'm just an ordinary girl, trying to live an extraordinary life. Life is so much more beautiful with music, art, and style in it. To see everyday people express themselves in such unique ways is one of my favorite things to do. I can literally observe street stylists all day. Music? For me music is like falling in love. There is such an amazing feeling when there's music playing. At our house we love to play records on afternoons and enjoy the sun setting. And art, I love art because of it's audacity. Artists are just so special. It's kind of hard to explain but when you see an art piece from street art, to graffiti to a decor piece for your home, the feeling of excitement and appreciation of its beauty is unexplainable. On this blog I will promise my readers to always express myself through style, art, and music... Hoping that you like me enough to feel inspired:)
